Courtesy of GorillazGorillaz‘s self-titled debut album turns 20 today. In celebration of the milestone, the band will be reissuing each one of their albums.
Details about the project are scarce at the moment, but the campaign is expect to begin later this year. A press release promises that the reissues will include an “abundance of declassified gems.”
The 20th anniversary celebration will also include the relaunch of the Gorillaz G Foot Collection clothing line, as well as the release of various toys and “digital art collectibles.”
The album Gorillaz was released March 26, 2001. It introduced the world to the virtual band made up of cartoon members 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobbs and Noodle, created by Blur‘s Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett.
“I’m exhausted. [Twenty] years is a long time to be top of your game and let’s be clear here, it’s a one man gig keeping this show on the road,” Murdoc says. “A lot of names get bandied about, a lot of pretenders to the throne, one or two in particular…But there is only one Murdoc Niccals. As an ex of mine once said, it’s hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world.”
Gorillaz’s most recent album is 2020’s Song Machine: Season One — Strange Timez, featuring collaborations with Beck, St. Vincent, Elton John and The Cure‘s Robert Smith, among many others.
