Limp Bizkit has been working on a new record off-and-on for nearly a decade now, but according to guitarist Wes Borland, it’ll be worth the wait.
Speaking with Avenged Sevenfold‘s Johnny Christ‘s Drinks with Johnny web show, Borland says that the music and riffs he’s recorded for the long-awaited album is “the best stuff I’ve ever done as a musician.”
“I’m so pleased with the direction the music went, and I love what we did as a band,” Borland shares.
Limp Bizkit, of course, hasn’t released a new album since 2011’s Gold Cobra. In 2012, they announced they’d started recording a record titled Stampede of the Disco Elephants, but the effort was repeatedly delayed and has yet to see the light of day.
As Borland explains, part of the holdup has been due to frontman Fred Durst, whom the guitarist affectionately refers to as a “perfectionist,” has been “unsatisfied with where the vision is.”
“We probably have 35 songs recorded instrumentally, and [Durst has] done vocals on them and then thrown the vocals away,” Borland says. “[He’s] done vocals and then [gone], ‘F*** this, thrown it away.'”
The good news is that Borland believes that Durst is “finally at the point now where he’s gonna pick a set of these songs that he’s finally cool with and finish them and we’re gonna finish a record.”
“So, fingers crossed,” he says.
Borland adds that he’s heard some of the vocals Durst has demoed, which he thinks sound “great,” adding, “I have no doubt that he’s gonna come and bring it and it’s gonna be a great record.”
Alas, Borland doesn’t think the record will be titled Stampede of the Disco Elephants when it does finally arrive.
