Muse‘s upcoming new album, Will of the People, features some of the heaviest riffs in the band’s discography, and for that you can thank frontman Matt Bellamy‘s son.
As Bellamy tells Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, his son’s love of Slipknot influenced the musical direction of Will of the People.
“We never pretend to be able to touch [Slipknot],” Bellamy says. “But hearing that stuff blasting on the way to school most mornings, that really kind of got into the album a little bit.”
On the other side of the musical spectrum, Bellamy shares that he’s a big Lady Gaga fan. He recalls briefly meeting the future pop superstar during one of her concerts in 2007, during which she shared “real weird wisdom” with him.
“She goes, ‘Oh yeah, I know Muse,'” Bellmay recalls. “She goes, ‘Rock. That’s a tough genre, man. That’s going to be a tough genre.'”
He continues, “And I just thought that, what was that? Where did that come from? But it was true. Yeah. She knows. She knows.”
Will of the People will be released this Friday, August 26.
